Professional Training

MultiCaf is a place where students of local universities and schools in Montreal can acquire knowledge and experience. We will mentor and let them get in touch with social reality of Côte-des-Neige.

  • We receive the students and their teachers for an immersion course deep inside our activities. It’s an unique opportunity to initiate them to the realities of people who face poverty and to actions that we take in food security.
  • We also receive small groups of 4 to 8 students from Montreal University and McGill University. During a full academic session, they will work with our staff and customers on specific subjects like healthy food, easy and economical recipes to help them feed inexpensively.
  • Training are also organized during the year with McGill University and St. Mary Hospital for futures physicians. A visit of community places of Côte-des-Neiges is organized with the students. The visit shows the importance of the community intervention in a multi-cultural neighborhood like Côte-des-Neiges and the necessity of the public and community networks resources. Health deterioration is the first consequence of poverty, so future physicians must be aware of it.
  • One other type of training in our premises is the individual training of college and university level. A student is present in our organization one or two days a week for an observation and intervention training.
  • During the last years we had similar agreements with Lasalle College, University of Marseille and Avignon. Groups of 3 french students usually came for a period of 3 months to get experience on community intervention among low income people.
  • Passe-Action program in collaboration with Emploi-Québec is the most Important kind of intervention training program. The program allows individuals not in labor market mainly due to health reasons to relearn professional habits.

In 2015, more than 30 students were accepted and worked at MultiCaf. They are always supervised by our coordinator.
